Once upon a time, there was a poor woodcutter who lived near a forest. Every day, he went to the forest to cut wood and sell it in the market. He worked very hard but earned just enough to buy food for his family.
One day, while cutting a tree near the river, his axe slipped from his hands and fell into the deep water. The woodcutter became very sad because that was his only axe, and he could not afford a new one. He sat near the river and cried.
Suddenly, a kind fairy appeared. She asked the woodcutter why he was crying. When he told her the truth, she went into the river and brought out a golden axe. The woodcutter said it was not his. Then she brought a silver axe, but again he said no. Finally, she brought his iron axe, and he happily said it was his. The fairy was pleased with his honesty and gave him all three axes as a reward.
