పెద్ద పెద్ద పర్వతాలు ఎలా ఏర్పడ్డాయి?
పర్వతాలు ఏర్పడడానికి ముఖ్యంగా రెండు కారణాలు చెప్పుకోవచ్చు. భూమి మొదట్లో భగభగమండే అగ్ని గోళం లాగా ఉండేది. దీనిలోని పదార్థాలన్నీ ద్రవరూపంలోనో, వాయు రూపంలోనో ఉండేవి. ఈ గోళం సుమారు 200 కోట్ల సంవత్సరాల క్రితం కొంత వరకు చల్లబడి, భూమి పైపొర గట్టిపడడం ప్రారంభించింది. భూమిపై ఏర్పడిన ఈ గట్టిపొర సుమారు 20 కిలోమీటర్ల మందం ఉంటుంది. దాని కన్నా భూమిలో లోతుకు పోయేకొలదీ అత్యంత ఉష్ణోగ్రత గల ద్రవం ఉంటుంది. భూమిపై భాగం మొదట్లో గట్టిపడినప్పుడు అందులో ఎత్తు పల్లాలు లేవు. కానీ పై పొర చల్లబడి భూమి కుంచించుకు పోయిన కొలదీ ఆ పొరలో ముడతలు ఏర్పడ్డాయి. భూమి పైపొరలో గ్రానైట్, దాని అడుగున బసాల్ట్ అనే రెండు రకాల శిలలు ఉన్నాయి. ఇవి దృఢంగా, ఫలకాల రూపంలో ఉంటాయి. ఈ గ్రానైట్ ఫలకాలపైనే ఖండాలు ఏర్పడ్డాయి. భూమి చల్లబడి కుంచించుకుపోయే ప్రక్రియలో ఈ గ్రానైట్ ఫలకాలు ధనస్సుల్లాగా వంగి అక్కడక్కడ భూభాగం పైకి లేచింది. ఈ ఫలకాలు ముడుచుకు పోయే క్రమంలో పగిలి, నెర్రెల రూపంలో విచ్చిపోయింది. ఇలా వంగి, విరిగిన శిలాభాగం భూమిపైకి పొడుచుకు రావడం వల్ల పర్వతాలు ఏర్పడ్డాయి.
ఇంకో రకంగా చెప్పాలంటే భూమి అంతర్భాగంలో అత్యంత ఉష్ణోగ్రతతో ద్రవరూపంలో 'లావా' అనే పదార్థం ఉంటుంది. భూమి మీద ఉన్న ఫలకాలకు కొన్ని చోట్ల నెర్రెలు ఏర్పడి లోపల ఉన్న లావా బయటకు ఎగదన్నుకుని వస్తుంది. ఈ లావా గట్టిపడడం వల్ల కూడా పర్వతాలు ఏర్పడతాయి.
